Recognise an investment scam

Guaranteed returns, social proof and pressure to deposit more are common signals in fake trading and investment schemes.

Warning signs

  • Returns are described as guaranteed, nearly risk-free or unusually consistent.
  • A stranger, influencer or romantic contact pushes you toward a specific platform.
  • A dashboard shows profits but withdrawals require new fees, taxes or deposits first.
  • You are rushed to increase the deposit before a supposed opportunity disappears.

What to do

  1. Verify the company and regulatory status independently before sending money.
  2. Do not pay extra fees simply to unlock a withdrawal from an unfamiliar platform.
  3. Treat screenshots of profits and testimonials as claims, not proof.
Test yourself
