Recognise a fake online shop

A polished storefront can still be fraudulent. Check the domain, business identity, payment pressure and whether the offer makes sense.

Warning signs

  • The domain is new, misspelled or unrelated to the store name.
  • Huge discounts apply to almost everything and the countdown never really ends.
  • Contact, returns or company information is missing or inconsistent.
  • The shop pushes irreversible payment methods or refuses normal buyer protection.

What to do

  1. Check the exact domain before paying, not just the logo or store name.
  2. Look for independent evidence of the business rather than testimonials hosted by the shop itself.
  3. Use payment methods that provide normal dispute or chargeback protection.
Test yourself
